Board of Review

The Board of Review meets to hear appeals of Taxable and Assessed Values, Property Classifications, Principal Residence Exemptions, Qualified Agricultural Property Exemption, Poverty Exemptions, Disabled Veterans Exemptions, and Qualified Errors including clerical errors and mutual mistakes of fact. 


 

City Commission

In compliance with Par. 15.265, Sec. 5(2), Public Acts of 1976, No.267 (Open Meetings Act), effective January 1, 1977, the Gladstone City Commission will hold regular public meetings on the 2nd and 4th Monday of the month to be held in the Commission Chambers of Gladstone City Hall (1100 Delta Avenue) beginning at 6:00 p.m.

2-year term for Mayor & Mayor Pro-Tem
Commissioners are elected for 4-year terms.  Election held odd-year in November.


 

Compensation Commission

The compensation commission meets as needed and each member serves a 5 year term. 


 

Construction Board of Appeals

MCL Section 125.1514 requires a Construction Board of Appeals for each governmental subdivision enforcing the code and requires not less than 3 members. The County is the governing entity that enforces our building codes/permits and they have requested that each jurisdiction they service provide and maintain their own Construction Board of Appeals in the event that the board need to be activated. The appointment of these members will be for two years and the board meets as needed.


Downtown Development Authority

The City of Gladstone Downtown Development Authority (DDA) was established in 1992 to enhance the quality of life for the City of Gladstone residents and develop a positive image of Downtown Gladstone for businesses, residents and visitors.

Gladstone's DDA comprehensively manages the downtown to maximize the local economy. We rely on Tax Increment Financing (TIF) dollars for operation with a goal set to halt property value deterioration and increase property tax valuation by eliminating the causes of that deterioration, and promoting economic growth.


Economic Development Corporation

The Corporation is a public economic development corporation incorporated pursuant to Act 338, Public Acts of Michigan, 1974, as amended. Any net earnings of the corporation beyond that necessary for the retirement of indebtedness or to implement the public purposes or program of the City of Gladstone may not inure to the benefit of a person other than the City of Gladstone and, upon dissolution of the Corporation shall belong to the City. Upon dissolution of the Corporation title to all property owned by the Corporation, subject to existing rights in other parties, shall vest in the City of Gladstone.


Fernwood Cemetery Committee

The Fernwood Cemetery Committee meets as needed.


Housing Commission

Meets 1st Tuesday @ 7:00 PM Bay View Manor


Planning Commission

The City of Gladstone Planning Commission meets the First Tuesday of the Month in the Gladstone City Hall Chambers at 5:00 p.m.

We work closely with the City to develop and annually update a Comprehensive Plan for the community, administer the community Zoning Ordinance and other land use ordinances of the community as amended, work with all land developers, especially in the area of new single-family residential subdivisions.


Recreation Advisory Board

Created for the purpose of advising the City Commission and Administration about all phases of recreation in the City, including current operations, long-term planning, and expenditures.  Seven members are appointed for three-year terms.
 
The Board meets the 1st Tuesday of each month at 6:30 PM at the Parks and Recreation Building located at 901 Montana Avenue.

The Parks & Recreation Department oversees the Gladstone Bay Campground, Sports Park, Harbor, Beach, beautification, special events and City recreation programs.
